ONEULI BEACH
A.K.A. Black Beach
One of three beaches in Makena State Park, Oneuli's dark-colored sand is left from the cinder of volcanic eruptions, making this remote beach a geological wonder. The reef and lava tube caves are teeming with a variety of sealife. Trail leads to the top of the cindercone. Limited parking. No facilities.

Cool Because
Remote beach with unique black sand.
Hazards
Swift currents, strong riptides and high surf may be present at any time of year. Slippery and hazardous rock and reef. Water fills caves at high tide. Sand can be very hot.
Topography
Rocky, dark-sand beach with lava shelf and reef underwater.
Not Good For
Swimming on days with surf - very strong currents.
